After reading Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton, I was hooked. I finished The Last Train to Key West which is set in the Florida Keys during the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane. Cleeton focuses her attention on the lives of three women as they face the most devastating hurricane in Florida Keys history. The Cat 5 hurricane with wind gusts over 200 mph brought major destruction and loss of life. Tragically, over 200 WWI Veterans died while working on Henry Flagler's "railroad to the Keys" on Matecumbe Key and Windley Key due to the late warning to evacuate. Cleeton's novel combines suspense and romance in this enjoyable read. See review by NPR "Love in the Eye of a Hurricane in the Last Train to Key West."
